Chemical Film Treatment

Chem Film, Chemical Film, or Chromate Conversion is a process used for applying a protective chromate coating onto aluminum, aluminum alloys, cadmium, magnesium, zinc, and also on zinc nickel deposits. Conversion coatings are formed when the chemicals in the chromate solution react with the base metals (i.e. aluminum, et.al.) dissolving the metal oxides and forming a complex hydrated metal oxide-chromate on the surface. The coating formed is corrosion resistant, durable and affords stable electrical conductivity. Chem Film can be used as final finish or can also serve as a base for paints, powder coats, lacquers, or as a base for rubber bonding.
